Arab beats return

Ya Leil, the sumptuous queer dance party boasting a slew of Arab beats, heads back to Sydney on Saturday.
DJ Gemma is back with the party that leaks beyond the edges of the dance floor with extraordinary music from the Arab world, set among sumptuous visual and performance art by local queer Arab artists.
Ya Leil will bring people together this February for a beautiful summer evening under the stars – with a generous serving of dancing, art and sensuous delights, including a feast of some of Sydney’s most delicious vegetarian Arab food.
“Food is a significant part of coming together and celebrating life. We’re going to party together, so let’s eat together too,” DJ Gemma said.
“It’s important to bring people together, to sit and share a moment before hitting the dance floor.
“I’m very grateful to be in a position to put on a party, to give people a chance to make a connection through music and the roots of Arab culture. I want to take people somewhere else for the night.”
The night will include eight hours of contemporary, independent and traditional music from the Arab world at the Jet Sports Club in Tempe.

info: Ya Liel is at Jest Sport Club, Holbeach Ave, Tempe from 7pm-3am. Tickets $30 pre-sale + $40 door, which includes the vegetarian banquet between 7–9pm, from So Music, 183 King St Newtown; The Barberia 323 Crown St, Darlinghurst and at www.yaleil.com.au.
