Bringing Vegas to Sydney

Bringing Vegas to Sydney

Everyone loves a showgirl -” even Kylie Minogue! And a new show heading to Sydney will bring the feathers and glamour of the Las Vegas showgirl to our very own doorstep.

Las Vegas (Confidential) is a Sydney-bound musical that tells a story of love, scandal, greed, lust and illusion.

It’s a show of many tales and themes with a moral -” don’t spend more than three days in Vegas or you will be corrupted.

In part it’s a true story. I know it sounds corny, but a lot of the names have had to be changed to protect the innocent -” one famous, stage manager Noah Sharwood told Sydney Star Observer.

Las Vegas is breaking new ground from the traditional musical theatre. It combines major Vegas magic illusions with a slick musical story. Vegas is most certainly something like we have never seen in this country. I think it will show Australian audiences what we are capable of producing.

The production has bought together industry professionals, musical theatre regulars and first-timers including its star-studded line-up of Tamlyn Henderson, Katrina Retallick, Tony Nikolakopoulos and ex-Bardot starlet Tiffani Wood.

It is certainly a tough challenge to wrangle all of the egos and nerves, however it’s a challenge that will build strength in all members of the cast and crew, Sharwood said.

And the costumes are a drag queen’s wet dream.

Cast members will be dressed in an old school Las Vegas style with loads of feathers and bling.
And it combines the talents of James Karp, who has worked on some massive American stage shows, and seasoned director Peter Casey.

This means for Las Vegas that there will be some surprises in store for our audience, Sharwood said.

It’s not going to be like a magic show where the magician stops and introduces the illusion. The illusions will just happen.

info: Las Vegas (Confidential) will play at the State Theatre from Tuesday 4 November. Details: www.lasvegasthemusicial.com.au
