Closing up shop

The countdown has well and truly begun for the last days of clubbing institution, the Market.

There are fewer than seven weeks to go until the Commercial Rd venue finally shuts its doors with a massive finale party on May 28.

After 11 and a half years, the next few weeks will see a convergence of special guest DJs and performers and a five-day weekend of events care of the Easter/Anzac Day break featuring production duo Denzal Park and house diva Kathy Brown, plus a very special house and garage Sunday night session.

The venue will also have videos of shows old and new on their screens during this time, and Wayne Morton will be reviving some of the best decor from the Market’s most popular parties.

Another highlight will be the launch of new drag show Drag Addicts on the Friday after Easter. It will be performed alongside the regular Trolley’d Friday midnight show from Destiny Forbidden, her dancers and comedian Joel Creasey.

Fridays will continue to be free entry, there’ll still be a free drink for those arriving between 9-10pm. Members, both trolley and medallion, will receive a free drink on arrival regardless of the time.

The final party is still under wraps but the venue has revealed that Zowie Knox is putting together a huge show — there’ll be performance art, a great DJ line-up, a live appearance by a star guest and a few bombshell surprises. Tickets will be pre-sale at Bang and Hares & Hyenas.
