Extra dirty sounds of New York

Extra dirty sounds of New York

He’s a superstar in the world of DJing and this Queen’s Birthday long weekend New York-based DJ Elliot DeHoyos is flying into town for Extra Dirty.

It’s his second visit to Sydney and this time he’s at The Gaff on Sunday 7 June. DeHoyos said you can expect a night of bouncing and dancing.

My style has a lot of tribal influence that has been incorporated with big sounds. I like to make sure my sets have a lot twists and turns, while keeping the energy up, he said. The last time I had the opportunity to play with DJ Mandy Rollins and Feisty it was at Phoenix. The vibe was incredible and the crowd was intense and into the music -” I’m thrilled to be back.

Kicking off at 9pm, the night will also feature DJs Karl Anderson, Sveta, Scott Pullen and Rob Gilbert.
DeHoyos is a pioneer in taking the original song in a new direction. He said it’s one thing to throw an a capella over drums but it’s something special to take the original in a direction the artist didn’t see coming.

As a DJ, I feel it’s my job to lead the crowd, but not get too far ahead of them. It’s about taking the journey together, so I keep an eye on body language and facial expressions. If they’re not smiling, it’s time to rethink the approach, he said. A good arrangement that includes that one sound that leaves you asking for more.

In the meantime, DeHoyos has two new tracks coming out on Slanted Black and you can hear him on his radio show at www.techno.fm.
