Celebrate Victoria’s LGBTI community with Pride March
THIS Sunday, the annual Midsumma festival will close with a bang as Melbourne’s LGBTI community turns out to show their colours for Pride March.
Starting at the assembly area at the corner of Lakeside Dr and Fitzroy St in St Kilda, the march starts at 2pm and continues along the length of Fitzroy St, finishing at Catani Gardens.
This year the day’s events start at 11am at Brunch with Pride, a fundraising event at Mavis Browns Hotel Urban on Fitzroy St.
Brunchers start the day the acceptable way to do so on a Sunday morning: with a bloody mary, a glass of bubbles and a spread of canapés.
Pride March Victoria have announced that Sydney Liberal councillor and sister to Prime Minister Tony Abbott Christine Forster will also be attending, and parade-goers are advised to book tickets on the Pride March Victoria website to ensure a relaxed start to the day.
The march itself is a chance for Melbourne’s fabulous LGBTI community to show their pride, and every year groups from the social to the political take to the streets of St Kilda to support and celebrate everything that makes the community.
Once the march winds up down the other end of Fitzroy St, the official Pride March after party will return at Catani Gardens.
After a bit of uncertainty earlier in the month, local organisations and the local council stepped in to make sure the march ended the way it should, and as usual Pride March Victoria will put on a bar and other post-march activities in the gardens.
A percentage of profits from the event will go towards supporting future Pride March events.
Finally, the day finishes with a Pride March party at the GH Hotel in St Kilda, where you can hit the dance floor after a long day of celebrating your community.
