Special screening of The Case Against 8 tonight
SYDNEY-based Queer Screen will host a special screening of award-winning documentary The Case Against 8 tonight, which will also feature a Q&A with director Ryan White.
A runaway hit on the LGBTI film festival circuit around the world, White’s documentary follows the battle for marriage equality from the eyes of two families who file a lawsuit against California’s infamous Proposition 8.
Their battle, led by super-star legal team, conservative Ted Olsen and liberal David Boies — who previously opponents in the president-making Bush vs Gore political saga — goes all the way to the US Supreme Court.
The now-famous landmark decision that follows has had incredible impact, and a domino effect, on the marriage equality movement in the US.
The Case Against 8 was the winner of the US documentary directing award at Sundance and the Audience Award at SXSW.
Along with a Q&A with White, Sydney state independent MP Alex Greenwich will also introduce the documentary and discuss Australian marriage equality.
Queer Screen have also recently launched the full line-up of their annual festival coming up on September. To have a read of the Star Observer’s sneak peek at the opening night film, click here.
