Two events, one cause: HIV fundraising

IT consistently raises tens of thousands of dollars each year, so it’s no surprise that Hats Off! is not only one of the biggest events on the Mardi Gras festival line-up, but also one of the biggest HIV charity fundraising events in Australia.

Once again, Oz Showbiz Cares / Equity Fights AIDS will gather the glittering stars of Sydney’s musical theatre and cabaret industry at Sydney’s Seymour Centre on Monday, February 23 to present Hats Off! To The Hits.

The ultimate aim of the evening is to raise funds for the fight against HIV and AIDS, with all proceeds to be donated to ACON and the Bobby Goldsmith Foundation, a charity that offers practical, emotional and financial support for people living with HIV.

The event’s ambassador, the hilarious Jan van de Stool (pictured above), joins co-host Garry Scale for a line-up of Australia’s leading performers in a glorious, camp celebration of the pop classics that have transformed into Broadway dynamite.

Performers include award-winning starlet Katrina Retallick, platinum-selling vocalist Paulini, Olympic diver-turned-ukulele performer Matthew Mitcham, stage stars Bobby Fox and Glenn Hill, British soul singer Andrew Bukenya and Mark Trevorrow, the man behind Bob Downe.

Others in the line up include Elenoa Rokobaro, Andrew Benson, Lesley Hancock, Margi De Feranti, Blake Bowden, Shauna Jensen, Tom Sharah, The Voice Kids Australia star Ruhi Lavaki, and more.

As well as Hats Off! To The Hits, drag identities Portia Turbo and Aunty Mavis will host Trivia with a Twist tonight, another Bobby Goldsmith Foundation fundraiser.

Along with special guests, the evening will comprise of several trivia rounds, various fun and games, prizes to be won, live shows and some silly interactive battles to earn extra points.

The trivia night will be held at the Paddington & Woollhara RSL tonight from 6.30pm.
