Heady monologues

We’ve had monologues from all sorts of reproductive organs, but the return of 2007’s The Fellatio Monologues will attempt to explore the differences between both sexes, rather than just one.

From break-ups to reconciliations — even one-night-sta

nds — The Fellatio Monologues muses on love, life and intimacy in its soliloquies.

The piece features five monologues, four written by television star Scott Major, who also directs, while one is written by gay playwright and Neighbours storyliner Wayne Tunks.

Tunks’ monologue is about a gay man in an open relationship with his long-term partner, but can’t stop thinking about his boyfriend as he receives fellatio from a man he’s just met.
Tunks has written and directed 37 Ways to Say I’m Gay as part of next year’s Midsumma Festival.

The cast includes Neighbours’ Georgia Bolton and Logie-winner Paul O’Brien (Home and Away).

“I think everyone can relate to the piece in some way or another. Last time we put it on there were women yelling out things like, ‘Yeah, you go sister!’” Major said.

“This is a subject that’s joked about a lot. We pull it apart a bit more and explore the dynamics and complexities of such a personal and intimate experience. But there are still plenty of laughs.”

The Fellatio Monologues is at Revolt Theatre, Kensington, November 9 – 19.
