Rainbow families are Midsumma gold

The big kids aren’t the only one who can enjoy the Midsumma Festival this season, with a swag of events aimed at keeping families entertained.

One of the highlights will be the Black Apple Theatre Company’s production of Morris Gleitzman’s much loved novel, Two Weeks with the Queen, at the Northcote Town Hall.

Aimed at kids aged 8-14, it reunites director Cheyney Caddy with the company — after a stint at the Melbourne Theatre Company — along with a cast of new talent from the Victorian College of the Arts.

Two Weeks with the Queen embraces diversity and tackles big issues with humour, ensuring that adults will be in on the fun as well.

Other family-geared events during the festival include the Rainbow Families Picnic at Logan Reserve in Altona on February 5 and the Rainbow Portraits in the Park, an exciting portrait clinic on January 23 at Gasworks Arts Park where you can learn to take great pictures of your family with photographic artist Michaela Olijnyk.
