Lambert premieres new ‘personal’ track

Openly gay former-American Idol contestant Adam Lambert debuted a new song from his upcoming album at a performance in Canada last week.

The singer was appearing at Quebec’s Le Festival Ste-Agathe en Feux Festival and sang Outlaws of Love after announcing he was going to treat the crowd to a taste of his new album, to the screams of his fans – or ‘Glamberts’.

Lambert said the track is inspired by personal experience and it seems to have a bit of a gay bent to it:

“All of the things I’ve been talking about over the past year, all of it boils down to acceptance and this is a song that I wrote about how it feels, that no matter where you go or where you turn, sometimes it feels like you’re just running from the law,” he explained.

We quite like it here at the Star Observer, what are your thoughts?

  1. Yes..I agree with Kris here! Why do you media idiots INSIST on the moniker “openly gay”??
Does it MATTER that your publication is GAY? Don’t you think your regular readers know that? Adam Lambert is much MORE than his sexual orientation! You do him NO service by insisting on tacking on “openly gay” OR “former Idol” (we are SO beyond that!) and since people now Google track by name…I’ll let you in on a little journalistic secret…He is being called “Rock star”, “Icon” “Grammy nominated” “Mega star”, “Icon” ETC….
While we, his loyal fans, are glad to see a gay publication support him for a change….do you write about “openly gay actor Neil Patrick Harris…”? Or isn’t it UNDERSTOOD by now? Being straight OR gay is not an accomplishment any more than being black or white, blonde or brunette. Can’t we just once and for all practice what we preach and just accept each other for what we actually accomplish instead of who we sleep with?
And the song, “Outlaws of Love” makes ME recall a time long ago when my boyfriend and I were being kept apart by our families and we ran away together! I am straight and female! Heloise and Abelard in 10th century France also were Outlaws of Love as were the aforementioned (albeit fictional) Romeo and Juliette.
Not every Outlaw of Love is gay! Please, get over yourselves and allow what IS to just BE.It’s about the music and the other-worldly talent that IS Adam Lambert. Period. Thank you.

  2. His first name isn’t ‘Openly gay’. You might try Grammy nominee Adam Lambert, I think the openly gay tag has been done to death. But nice article. I love the song, too. It could be about gay lovers, or bi-racial lovers, or bi-cultural, or even Daddy doesn’t like the slease-bag you’re desperately in love with, Romeo/Juliet kind of lovers. Very much a song about fugitive love, and I don’t think only gays can relate to that. His voice is haunting, and I can’t get the song out of my head.

Ed: Thanks Kris, he’s gay, we’re a gay publication – it is all about relevance.
