Kirk Cameron: Homosexuality is unnatural

80s sitcom star-turned-evangelist Kirk Cameron has caused controversy in the US with anti-gay comments made during a CNN interview.

The former Growing Pains star, who now makes Christian-themed movies, told CNN’s Piers Morgan that he believed homosexuality to be unnatural.

“I think that it’s unnatural. I think that it’s detrimental, and ultimately destructive to so many of the foundations of civilization,” he said.

Cameron is also vehemently against same-sex marriage.

“Marriage is almost as old as dirt, and it was defined in the garden between Adam and Eve,” he said.

“One man, one woman for life till death do you part. So I would never attempt to try to redefine marriage. And I don’t think anyone else should either. So do I support the idea of gay marriage? No, I don’t.”

The 41-year-old father of six was then asked how what he’d say to one of his children if they came out as gay to him.

“I wouldn’t say ‘That’s great son as long as you’re happy’, I’d say there are all sorts of issues we need to wrestle through in our life,” he responded.

“Just because you feel one way doesn’t mean we should act on everything we feel.”

The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) has launched an online action for people to show their disapproval.

“With an increasing number of states recognising marriage equality, Americans are seeing that marriage is about committed couples who want to make a lifelong promise to take care of and be responsible for each other and that gay and lesbian couples need equal security and legal protections. That’s not ‘redefining’ anything,” GLAAD’s Herndon Graddick said.

A page titled Where Are They Now is now on GLAAD’s website and encourages readers to make their disagreement with Cameron’s comments known. The page includes link to a petition to sign, notifying Cameron that he is no longer your idol and it’s time for him to grow up.

  1. Who cares what this 80’s has been thinks? When the tv roles dried up he decided to become a televangelist, the lowest form of life on the planet. They scam the gullible for every cent they have. They are phoney “christians”.
