Up in our neck of the woods, the promise of spring is in the air and it’s time to get out and about and enjoy the changes this weather brings.

If you are a gay or bisexual man and would enjoy a barbecue with like-minded souls, get yourself along to Bent Events Sausage Meet. This barbecue affair is held in a local backyard every second Sunday of the month. The next one will be held 14 September.

Bent Events also holds a Bold Brunch in a gorgeous local gay-owned coffee and homewares shop on the third Saturday of the month. This is next held on Saturday 20 September. For more information about Bent Events contact 0413 918 288 or visit www.bentevents.com.au.

Do you feel like celebrating International Lesbian Day on Wednesday 8 October? ACON Northern Rivers’ Lesbian Health Project Worker has some wonderful women getting together regularly to plan some worthwhile activities for this day. Our local premier GLBT social organisation Tropical Fruits has begun selling tickets to its fabulous October long weekend party Branded. This party will be held at Tregeagle Hall on Saturday 4 October. Tropical Fruits parties are raved about afterwards, and if you have never experienced a Tropical Fruits event, get along to this one. Closer to home ACON Northern Rivers will be holding its second FUNdraising committee meeting on Thursday 4 September at 5pm in our lounge room. If you have any wonderful ideas or are happy to contribute to the many tasks needed, please come along or ring for further details. All funds raised will help ACON continue its vital work in unfunded projects.

ACON Northern Rivers is also hosting Getting On With It, a social/discussion group for local people living long-term with HIV/AIDS. The past meetings have proved popular and the last two dates for these get-togethers are Saturdays 4 October and 1 November. Ring ACON Northern Rivers Health Maintenance Officer, Neil, for more details.

Fundraising screening for the almost finished documentary on homophobic violence

  • WORLD AIDS DAY

    1 December 2008 marks the 20th anniversary of World AIDS Day. Volunteer to sell ribbons, or come along to the many events that will be held to remember whose have died, and raise money to support those living with HIV/AIDS.
