Almost exclusively dealt with in a serious and officious way, t The sombre issue of homophobia may finally inspire something positive as IDAHO the Exhibition encourages people to deal with their experiences through making art.
Next year the Pine Street Creative Arts Centre will hold a series of interactive workshops, art-making courses and an exhibition to engage people with the issue of homophobia in a proactive way.
People from around the country who have been directly affected by homophobia or who feel passionately about putting a stop to it are being encouraged to make and send through their artworks or creative responses for consideration in the final exhibition.
“The project’s main aim is to reach out to as many people as possible in the GLBTIQ community who have experienced homophobia. “The workshops and the exhibition are an opportunity for people to come to a safe place and create something. If they come to the space and start drawing, it might be a comfortable, relaxed way of helping them trigger what they’re feeling about their lives and what has gone on in their lives,” said the event curator Nick Baldas.
