An extraordinary life journey

Noel Tovey has had an incredible life, surviving childhood poverty, neglect and sexual and racial abuse.

SBS’ Australian Biography series will feature Tovey’s amazing story. His journey started in the slums of Melbourne and ended on the glittering London stage. Now 75, the acclaimed director, dancer and West End choreographer has worked with the likes of Judy Garland, Vera Lynn and Kenneth Branagh, and at one time, was a principal dancer with Sadlers Wells Opera Ballet in London.
Tovey has fought for indigenous and gay rights throughout his life -” he recently turned his attention to the rights of the gay elderly, penning an open letter to Prime Minister Kevin Rudd on changes to legislation for same-sex couples and what that means for the community’s elders.
