4Play is a collaboration by some of Australia’s best theatrical talent running at Slide this Mardi Gras.
Under the artistic direction of Stephen Carnell, the show is a true feast of tasty treats, delivering five short plays with several breaks to enjoy a two-course meal.
“Co-producer David McAmis and I jointly conceived a production of a number of short plays that dealt with love, sex and death and the works we ultimately chose certainly do that very well,” Carnell said.
“These plays deal with the gamut of GLBTQ experiences, from coming out to your parents to dealing with your mum’s lovers to the frustrations of youthful sexuality and middle-aged lust.”
4Play starts on Monday, February 15, with a preview for ACON and all box office proceeds going to the charity.
The five plays and the meal are interspersed over two and a half hours. The plays are called Reason 42, Roadkill, Mummy’s Boy, Bath House Blues and For the Love of Men.
“Each play springs from the unique personality and talent of a single writer, embellished by the talents of a capable director and a group of actors,” Carnell said.
“Five plays offer entirely different points of view on sexuality and gender — some funny, some sad, some violent and some highly sexual.”
