A good ring punch

A good ring punch

Do you want to take ring-punching out of the bedroom and into Hyde Park?

Drop the lube and put your other gloves on because Punch Him In The Ring, Sydney’s only gay men’s boxing class, is moving from the beach to the queer ’hood.

Punch Him In The Ring is dedicated to teaching guys to abandon their instinct to bitch-slap and tap into the hardcore homo within who can pack a real punch.

“This is not boxercise to bad Tina Cousins remixes,” PHITR’s head honcho Andrew Georgiou said.

“These classes teach ring boxing techniques to boys of all sizes and fitness levels meaning they can walk down the street without the fear of being harassed because they actually know how to fight back. It’s empowering stuff.”

If you’re worried about being unco, Georgiou assures us anyone can box.

“We’ve had big girls blouses come out fighting like Tyson, ear nibble included,” he said.

“Camp, butch, chunky or Celine-Dion-thin, we want guys to come along, feel a part of something awesome and walk away knowing that if their back gets pushed against the wall they can get out of a jam.”

The group’s token straight man is instructor Stacy Batchelor who says after just five lessons ring punchers are fighting fit with powerful right hooks, left jabs, upper cuts and blocks.

The one-hour classes are on Wednesday nights and Saturday mornings starting July 14 and will see fellas throwing powerful punches over five weeks.
