Asian Marching Boys find a home

The Asian Marching Boys & Friends (AMBF) have found a new home and partnership with Oxford Street’s oldest venue, the Midnight Shift.

The partnership will see AMBF hold key events at the venue in 2011, which will assist in cementing their presence in the community, as well as bringing their vision of a more inclusive community to a venue that has long been known as an accepting place for the gay community from all backgrounds.

AMBF, which has been marching in the annual Mardi Gras parade for 10 years, will also get more involved in community forums this year, especially those involving multicultural people dealing with their sexuality.

Chair Kha Phan is very excited about the new partnership with the Midnight Shift and what the group has planned for 2011.

“The Midnight Shift has always been a welcoming place for multicultural men and women,” Phan said.

“We are excited with this new partnership and feel it will aid in promoting the visibility of the Asian Marching Boys & Friends.

“This year is shaping up to be an exciting one for the group and we hope to welcome many new members who can join us on the journey.”

AMBF will be holding a fundraising night on Saturday, February 19 at the Midnight Shift to raise money for its 2011 Mardi Gras Parade entry.

There will be giveaways throughout the night as well as a raffle with some great prizes, a choreographed performance by AMBF and special guest drag performers.
