Calling all ‘gaybys’

Calling all ‘gaybys’

Director Maya Newell and producer Charlotte McLellan are producing a documentary, Gayby Baby, about children with gay parents, and are on the hunt for queer families interested in taking part.

Newell, who herself has two mums, is interested in telling the story of these families from the perspective of the children in them — a side of the story that is rarely told.

“We’re currently interviewing children from all ages, races and regions across Australia about their personal experiences, interactions and views on their family,” McLellan told the Star Observer.

“Thus far the children have been aged between three and 27, all with varying levels of comprehension and comment. The process has been incredibly inspiring.

“We now find ourselves broadening our search — we’d really like to reach families living outside urban areas.”

The pair are looking for gay and lesbian families from all over Australia who would like to participate in this groundbreaking project. Specifically, they are now seeking to interview children between the ages of five and 12, but are keen to hear stories from parents too.
