Australia’s only gay and lesbian radio station, JOY 94.9, in collaboration with national depression initiative beyondblue has announced a special Live Outside Broadcast for National Youth Week.

An annual event, the broadcast takes place at Princes Hill Secondary College in Carlton North and will focus on issues GLBT youth deal with on a daily basis. This year, the focus is on depression and bullying amongst peers in the schoolyard and online.

With statistics stating that GLBT youth are six times more likely to have suicidal tendencies than their heterosexual counterparts, it is perfect timing to highlight the need for more attention in this area.

“We’re very excited to be invited back to Princes Hill to showcase not only the amazing services available to GLBT youth in fighting these issues, but also the abundant talent that Melbourne students have to offer,” JOY 94.9 board member and youth captain Kyle Minall said.

The live broadcast will be on Friday, April 8, noon – 4pm.
