Gay families wanted

Newtown-based media production company Iris Pictures is making a video for Relationships Australia, a non-profit organisation that offers relationship counselling, and wants to depict the full range of Australian families.

Iris Pictures is looking for a gay or lesbian couple with children who would be happy for a film crew to interview and film them at home interacting with their children.

“The video will be shown internally to people who might benefit from the services of Relationships Australia and it will also be used by the organisation as a promotional video to help it raise funds — which is obviously a very important thing for an NGO,” Iris Pictures’ Tracey Savage told the Star Observer.

Savage said the shoot would be slightly improvised and would try to capture a day in the life of a particular domestic situation.

“There will be a little bit of a script, so it will be real people playing themselves, if you like,” Savage said. Filming is scheduled for the week starting January 16 and the filmmakers will need around half a day for the shoot.

Participating couples will receive a video of professionally cinematographed footage of their family to keep as a ‘thank you’.
