The team behind the new Australian documentary about children in gay families, Gayby Baby, have four days to raise another $10,000 and begin finalising production.

So far they have raised about $90,000 but need another $10,000 to reach their online crowd-funding goal of $100,000, which will go towards production costs such as camera equipment, marketing and editing.

Almost 1,000 people throughout Australia and from overseas have pledged from $5 all the way up to a single donation of more than $25,000 for the film.

It will follow the lives of three children of with gay parents or ‘gaybies’ to see what it’s really like growing up in a same-sex family.

The project began in February last year when film director Maya Newell and producer Charlotte McLellan called out for children from Australian same-sex families to tell their stories.

The project’s crowd-funding deadline is Tuesday December 18.
