Join the Christmas chorus

The Melbourne Gay & Lesbian Chorus (MGLC), Youth Chorus and the Melbourne Rainbow Band (MRB) join forces to present Carols by Queerlight this Saturday at Prahran Markets.

Under the batons of musical directors Adrian Schultz (MGLC) and Mark Lyall (MRB), a program of traditional and modern Christmas carols and a couple of bonus tunes will be performed. Entertainment personality Luke Gallagher and Joy FM General Manager Danae Gibson will add some sparkle as MC.

The concert will be broadcast live on JOY 94.9.

This is the 10th year that MGLC and MRB have presented Carols by Queerlight in partnership with the Prahran Market Management. As in past years, this is a free concert.

In the past 12 months alone, MGLC have been involved in musical events including the first ever youth chorus stand-alone concert – The Sound of Youth – held at Gasworks Theatre in Albert Park in April, and the successful Out of the Closet and Into the Choir concert. Most recently MGLC performed 20 camp classics at the We Are Family concert at Darebin Arts and Entertainment Centre in Preston.

Celebrating its 15th anniversary in 2010, the MRB is a community concert band whose members are drawn from Victoria’s GLBTI and straight communities. With a repertoire as diverse as its members, the MRB performs throughout the year at community events and festivals as well as their own showcase concerts.

After staging their most recent concert, Australiana, at Chapel Off Chapel in May, the MRB is preparing for the release of its latest CD early in 2011.
