Kirby speaks at Rainbow Dinner

Former High Court justice Michael Kirby will address over 300 people from Tasmania and interstate this weekend for the annual Rainbow Dinner and address. Kirby will speak about Australia’s sexual minorities and equality, justice and science.

Tasmanian group, the League of Gentlefellows, are behind the dinner which will be raising funds for the Coming Out Proud Program Trust.The trust supports four regional Tasmanian committees that work towards creating safer communities for LGBTI people.

Coming Out Proud Program state coordinator Julian Punch said their work had helped reduce suicide among LGBTI people in Tasmanian communities.

“There are now many of us who will work to change this and the Rainbow Dinner is a wonderful way to create and celebrate respect,” Punch said.

The Rainbow Dinner is held at Wrest Point Hotel, Hobart on Saturday, December 1.
