Masquerade ball for all

Masquerade ball for all

There are few bigger events in a teen’s life than the school formal. However, recent reports suggest some students are missing out on this rite of passage, as same-sex partners have been excluded from many school formals.

Hobsons Bay City Council, in Melbourne’s west, will host the Masquerade Ball for Everyone, an LGBTI-friendly event that will encourage inclusion, safety and support for young LGBTI people and their friends.

The event will take place at The Substation on Saturday, October 15 from 6.30pm.
Schools often exclude same-sex couples from these events. This was apparent in late 2010 when an Ivanhoe student was banned from bringing her girlfriend to the school formal and was asked to bring a male instead.

Tickets cost $20 and include soft drink, finger food, and entertainment, as well as competitions and prizes.

INFO: Call Hobsons Bay Youth Services team on 03 9932 4000 to book tickets.
