Pets and singles unite

PetRescue and Single Volunteers have teamed up to organise an event for single people interested in doing something positive for Sydney’s homeless dogs and cats on Valentine’s Day.
Single Volunteers is run by Melina Schamroth who has been organising events to support the homeless and disadvantaged for two years.
Often people have considered doing some volunteer work for worthy causes but haven’t taken that first step.
Organising a large group to undertake a specific afternoon of volunteer tasks is a good way to get started and find out whether it is something you will enjoy in the longer term.
Meeting other singles with similar interests is obviously a bonus.
The Sydney Dogs and Cats Home is at 77 Edward St, Carlton. The day’s activities will run from 2pm until 5pm.
Volunteers will help spruce up the concrete dog runs, refurbish the cat enclosures, wash dogs and will be asked to form ‘rehoming committees’ to re-do photos and videos of individual dogs and cats that have been at the home for long periods, and exchange new ideas for marketing rescue animals to potential adopters.
The event has a firm allocation of spaces for gay guys and girls. Attendance is $70 (which covers the cost of holding the event and the rest is donated to the shelter). Bookings can be made at Single Volunteers website www.madwoman.com.au/events/upcoming.php or visit www.petrescue.com.au
