SGLBA to host next Camp Co-Op

The next Camp Co-Op, the cooperative gathering of GLBTIQ community leaders, board and committee members, is set for Tuesday, June 21, and the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Business Association is proud to be hosting this networking and skills-sharing event.

Gay and Lesbian Community Publishing (GLCP) Ltd, publisher of the Sydney Star Observer, helped launch the event for people who volunteer on the boards or committees of GLBTIQ community organisations.

GLCP chair Daniel Bone said the idea for Camp Co-Op came about when he first joined the SSO Media board.

“We needed to review and update some of our governance documents and we also needed to make sure we had processes in place,” Bone said.

“Within the community there’s been a bit of a vacuum in terms of a structured way for people to get together and learn together.”

Along with the GLCP, board members from the SGLBA, ACON and New Mardi Gras have been steering and supporting Camp Co-Op from the beginning. SGLBA president Paul Lee-Maynard feels Co-Op provides a space for community leaders and groups to work with each other and strengthen support across the community.

“Camp Co-Op is a collaborative venture that brings committee and board members together to work on governance, processes and procedures that will ultimately see our community groups improve practices. We are delighted to host the next forum on June 21,” he said.

Invitations and further information about the next event will be circulated in the coming week.
