Media Officer for Dykes on Bikes, Mel Kelly said: “Animal welfare is close to our hearts and I was really impressed to see just how much we collected as a group, particularly as it was the first year we’ve nominated RSPCA for our Christmas ride.”

“RSPCA staff members were thankful and greeted us with some very excited puppies who jumped head first into the loot. We were then treated to a behind the scenes tour of the shelter and veterinary clinic”.

Community Programs Supervisor for the RSPCA Sandra Ma said: “These kinds of donations make a huge difference. The RSPCA reaches out to those in need in a number of ways throughout the year, but Christmas is a particularly busy time.”Screen shot 2015-12-11 at 12.32.07 PM

The donations will go directly toward some of RSPCA’s key programs such as: Pets Of Older Persons (POOPs) which assists socially isolated elderly people by offering assistance with their pets in times of crisis.

Safe Beds for Pets is specifically designed to help victims of domestic violence. The program aims to assist in empowering people to escape domestic violence in the home by offering safe temporary accommodation for pets. And ‘Living Ruff’ which assists those individuals that are currently experiencing homelessness and require assistance with their pets.

“The club is delighted to once again work with the RSPCA and give back this Christmas.

“RSPCA staff have been warned they may need to do a ‘furry head count’ before they let us take off on our bikes.”
