Volunteering with SGLBA

This month nominations opened for the 2011 NSW Volunteer of the Year Award. This annual award recognises the outstanding efforts of the 2.4 million volunteers in NSW, promoting the importance of volunteering to the community and to businesses.

Every year across NSW, volunteers are the ‘lifeblood’ of the community, offering their time and skills to support the community and local businesses.

If you have attended an SGLBA event, Lemons with A Twist®, Fruits in Suits® or Long Table Canapés, you will have seen the SGLBA volunteer team in action. The SGLBA relies on the support of its members and volunteers to bring the community a series of quality business networking events and get-togethers. SGLBA volunteers work to produce Sydney’s best networking events for the professional GLBTIQ community.

“Our registered volunteers — board members, SGLBA members and friends — are behind all our events, and we simply could not present leading events without their invaluable support,” SGLBA media and communications director Amanda Keeling said.

“Lemons with a Twist director Mary Shalala and I have the wonderful support of many fabulous men and women who help out at Lemons. Volunteering at Lemons gives people the chance to meet new contacts and talk business, while helping out the SGLBA.

“We would really like to see more women become involved with SGLBA events, as we have a community of very talented, professional women, with a broad cross-section of skills on offer. If you are keen to volunteer this year, we would love to hear from you.”
