Campaign calls for input

The Australian chapter of online anti-homophobia campaign It Gets Better is calling for feedback on where its charity dollars should go.

The Australian version of the campaign was set up this year and has been launching in cities around the country over the last few weeks.

The group wants to give money it receives from donations to help young LGBTI people and is asking the community for suggestions.

“We are asking you if there are any special projects you would like to see added to the ‘wish list’, or if you have any other feedback that you would like us to consider in this planning stage,” organisers said.
The new group said one of its priorities is to raise money to support staff at Lifeline’s 24-hour crisis call centre.

The It Gets Better campaign was established by US columnist Dan Savage and his partner Terry Miller in September 2010 in response to a spate of young people taking their lives after being bullied.

It Gets Better Australia is also calling for volunteers. Register your interest at [email protected]

  1. Wait – since my complaints earlier this year, they seem to have added some LGBTI services to their directory – in 2011: nice work Lifeline.

  2. No additional funds should go to Lifeline until they have some/ANY LGBTI services on their services directory and they provide adequate LGBTI diversity training to their workers!!!

The funds should go to targetted LGBTI youth mental health & suicide prevention services IMO!!
