Gay picnic in Parramatta Park

Don’t forget the annual Parramatta Pride Picnic will take place this Sunday 21 September at Parramatta Park -” just look for the rainbow flag.

All community members are invited to join in the festivities, with Team Sydney providing plenty of entertainment including volleyball, softball and other sporting activities.

Bring your kids, nephews, nieces or your inner child out for a fun-packed day as there will be regular story times, face-painting, kite-making and drumming workshops as well.

And on top of all that, there will be a special guest appearance from drag extraordinaire and SSO online western Sydney columnist Beverly Buttercup.

The aim of the event is to hold a picnic for people living, working or socialising in Parramatta and western Sydney to come together for a day of fun and activities, picnic spokesman Matthew Vaughan said.

The community stands will be there on the day so that people are aware of the services that are in western Sydney for the LGBT community.

It’s a very important event. The picnic provides a place where people can all come together, meet other people and enjoy a day in the park. Often people living in western Sydney are so isolated that they are not aware of other LGBT people living in their area or around them.

The Parramatta Pride Picnic is organised by the Parramatta Queer Forum, a group of service providers to western Sydney’s gay and lesbian community.

If packing a picnic basket is not your thing, you can support the Western Suburbs Haven and buy a sausage sandwich or cans of drink.

We want to encourage many people to come. It’s a great day for the community and it’s a family-friendly atmosphere, Vaughan said.

If there is one event that you attend all year in western Sydney, it should be the Parramatta Pride Picnic.
