Mardi Gras Parade debrief

A community discussion night will be held this Thursday, April 26 to talk all about the controversies and successes of this year’s Mardi Gras Parade.

Two Sydney Mardi Gras representatives will be on hand to speak with the community about this year’s event and explain some of the thinking behind the inclusions and exclusions of the event.

The meeting will also cover the involvement of community groups in event alongside corporate supporters.

Speakers include a representative of the Raelian ‘banned banner’ gay group, former Mardi Gras board member Siri May, Scarlet Alliance spokesperson Jane Green, Poly Pride’s Mik Scheper and Nina Melksham and Beats Project spokesperson Richard
Capuano.

The meeting will be chaired by Scarlet Alliance’s Elena Jeffreys.

All welcome. A blessing by the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence will be given at 6.45pm, and speakers start at 7pm. A light super will follow discussion.

On at the Red Umbrella Room, Suite 9, 245 Chalmers Street, Redfern.

Free entry but a donation is required for supper.

  1. Why bother.. They didn’t listen to the Community about the last ‘mardi gras’ fiasco..Why would they listen this time..Dropping its name ‘back to ‘Mardi Gras’ so whats the difference and what makes Sydneys different from every where else?.. Whats the diference between Sydney Mardi Gras and Brazil or New Orleans?? its Gay and Lesbian Bi Transgender Queer etc beginings!!. go ahead and spend thousands on a new logo.. (that the design was pilfered from a jewelry designer) but
go ahead and spend out some more money (i bet they were friends of the comittee and laughed all the way to the bank, when you bought so called ‘ original’ logo ‘artwork’) … No-one i knew bothered going this year because it may as well been the Hobart Straight Mardi Gras!
Hopefully they might listen to concerns this year and take note the community was not impressed with the previous years so called desisions, and outragous over spending… Remember its origins and get with the program!
