Women of the waves needed

Melbourne LGBTI radio station JOY94.9 is calling for more women to get involved.

The station is holding a forum this month — JOY Women: Past, Present, Future — to look at ways the station can recruit more women to take part both on air and behind the scenes.

The forum will discuss strategies to retain women at the station and look at some of the issues that may be preventing women from participating.

The station currently has volunteer vacancies in office administration, web design, podcasting, program producing, presenting and panel operation, and copy writing.

The station also offers radio training courses.

JOY 94.9 is Australia’s only 24-hour LGBTI-specific radio station and has more than 200,000 listeners in Melbourne. It also broadcasts online, offers listeners podcasts and has recently released a JOY iPhone/iPad app.

The women’s forum will be held on Sunday, September 25 from 2–4pm at the City Village, Level 10, 225 Bourke St, Melbourne. RSVP to Leenie Fabri at [email protected] by Friday, September 23.

  1. If I lived in Melbourne, I would jump at the chance to volunteer at JOY. I’m a huge fan. :)

Ah well. Good luck finding some more lovely ladies. We need more female representation on LGBTIQ radio stations in general… but I guess that’s another topic…

  2. They need another Bridget Boson, I think she was one of the best presenters they’ve ever had and it was great she was on air every day. She’s now at the ABC so doubt she’d go back.
