A charity movie screening filled with Pride

A charity movie screening filled with Pride

THE Bobby Goldsmith Foundation is hosting a special screening of Pride on Wednesday night in Sydney to help raise funds for what is one of Australia’s oldest HIV and AIDS charity organisations.

Pride, which will have a commercial release on Thursday, is based on true events, depicting a group of gay and lesbian activists who raised money to help families affected by the British miners’ strike in 1984.

The alliance between the group and the mining community of Onillwyn in Wales was not only unlikely, but its success set in stone the foundations for some of the most historic events in both the UK’s LGBTI and workers’ rights movements.

The historical comedy-drama film is written by Stephen Beresford and directed by Matthew Warchus, and won the Queer Palm award at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.

The Bobby Goldsmith Foundation invites everyone to attend the charity screening event in Dendy cinemas, Newtown. Proceeds from the night will go toward supporting people living with HIV in NSW.

Tickets are $32 and includes complimentary drinks and nibbles. Click here for details and bookings.
