Drag queen Maxi Shield to host Madonna’s Australian pre-concert parties

SYDNEY drag queen Maxi Shield has been signed as the hostess for the pre-concert parties of Madonna’s Rebel Heart Tour around Australia next year.

Hosting the pre-concert parties in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney, Shield announced the news on her website: “From doing ‘Like a Virgin’ on stage for my year 12 concert to this, it’s bloody fabulous. [I] am beside myself with excitement.”

[showads ad=MREC]When Star Observer spoke with Shield she said Madonna’s Australian concert promoters contacted her directly out of the blue asking if she would do the gig.

“It was a complete surprise,” Shield said.

Shield has been performing drag full time for the past 16 years and is no stranger to Sydney’s Oxford St.

With details still to be confirmed of what will happen at the pre-concert parties, Shield was unsure if she would get the chance to meet the gay icon.

“I like all her stuff, even the new stuff that you think ‘what is this?’ Shield said.

“In a week, the next thing you know you are humming along with it.”
