More party details announced

With the rumour mill running hot about the surprise performers at this year’s Mardi Gras party, organisers have released more details about what revellers can expect on the night.

Drag queens Dallas Dellaforce and Joyce Maynge are among those who will star in an array of shows, including one based on the hit movie Black Swan, while rocker Sarah McLeod will take to the stage at the Dome for a surprise song.

The Royal Hall of Industries (RHI) will be transformed into a “colourful dance palace,” with Dallas Dellaforce floating through the crowd for her opening number before joining a team of dancers and members of the Flamba GLBT Brazilian drumming group on stage. Later on, 16 female dancers will put on a couture fashion-inspired show, and Joyce Maynge will perform a show to a camp classic at sunrise.

“One of the biggest elements of Mardi Gras Party are the explosive and colourful shows,” New Mardi Gras CEO Michael Rolik said.

“This year we’re raising the bar with our shows, and I can guarantee you at least a couple of exclusive international surprises on the night. There’s only one way to find out who will perform, and that’s to be there on the night.”

Rihanna, current Sydney resident George Michael and Ke$ha are among the performers rumoured to have been approached to make surprise appearances on the night, with Ke$ha rumours gaining currency this week after she contributed a video message for the Mardi Gras ‘Say Something’ campaign.

Other artists doing the rumour rounds include Dirty Talk singer Wynter Gordon and ‘80s pop superstar Belinda Carlisle.

International headlining DJs confirmed for the Party include Calvin Harris, Frankie Knuckles, Seamus Haji, Larry Tee and Steven Redant, plus local talents including Kate Monroe, Murray Hood, Kam Shafaati and Sveta. Bob Downe is also set to bring his All-Star Retro-Gras to the Forum stage.
