The Simpson’s Smithers to come out as gay

AFTER almost three decades of speculation, The Simpsons character Waylon Smithers will come out gay in the 27th season of the show.

Speaking with American TV website tvline.com, The Simpsons executive producer Al Jean said: “In Springfield now, most people know he’s gay, but obviously Burns doesn’t.

“We deal with that in two episodes… We actually do a lot with Smithers this year, he gets fed up with Burns not appreciating him and considers his options.”

This is not the first openly-gay character on the long-running TV series. Marge’s sister Patty came out as a lesbian in 2004, and Duffman was outed as gay in 2008.

  1. This is news? Seriously – We all knew this over 25 years ago. He is a gay conservative or Republican (member of the Log Cabin Republicans)! The Californian Republican Party repealed anti-gay clauses in its platform just last week too! However there is one clause that still stays that “marriage is between a man and a woman”. Too late, SCOTUS on June 26, 2015 – has legalized marriage equality in all 50 USA states now!
