Cast announced for film adaptation of Australian classic ‘Holding the Man’

AN all-star cast has been announced for the film adaptation of Australian classic Holding The Man.

The film, based on the autobiography of author Tim Conigrave, will feature Guy Pearce and Anthonly LaPaglia who play the two main character’s respective fathers, as well as Packed to the Rafters and Love Child’s Ryan Corr as Conigrave and East of Everything’s Craig Stott as his parter John Caleo.

Gay director Neil Armfield will also lead the film adaptation of the UN Human Rights Award-winning book, which was released in 1995.

The book was first adapted for the stage in 2006 by Tommy Murphy, and it has become one of the most successful Australian theatre productions after playing in most Australian capital cities and London’s West End.

Camilla Ah Kin and Kerry Fox will also feature in the movie as the respective mothers of the couple.

Holding The Man‘s plot is set around the lives of Conigrave and Caleo’s 15-year relationship ,where they met in high school in the 1970s right to Caleo’s death from AIDS-related illness in the 1990s.

The movie will be shot in Melbourne, but it has received unwanted attention as main actor Ryan Corr appeared in court earlier this week after being charged with allegedly smoking heroin in a Sydney lane way.

The star was placed on a good behaviour bond for 12 months, with his lawyer Chris Murphy arguing that the actor should be spared a conviction because the arrest stopped him using the heroin, which he said he had never tried before.
