Beyoncé unleashes 4
Beyoncé’s eagerly anticipated fourth album – the conveniently titled 4 – finally hit stores this morning, almost a month after it leaked online.
The superstar’s latest offering, which was heavily influenced by soul music from the ’70s and ’80s, has been described as non-commercial by many critics, but the general consensus appears to be that this is her finest album yet.
Australia has been particularly receptive to Bey’s new soultastic sound – with Run The World (Girls) becoming a Gold-selling top 10 hit and Best Thing I Never Had climbing into the iTunes top 20 without a video or promotion.
The album has been released in two versions – a standard edition and a deluxe edition with six bonus tracks.
We highly recommend the latter. It includes three of the best songs from the 4 era including Schoolin’ Life, which is drawing comparisons with early Prince.
In the track Beyoncé hands out advice – “Stop living in regret, it’s not over yet” and “that body ain’t always gonna get you out of everything” – to her fans, accompanied by a synth-pop backing track that wouldn’t sound out of place on LoveSexy.
Take a listen to the catchy (and educational) track below.
