FORMER Miss Spain of 2008 and 2013 and runner-up in last year’s Miss Universe competition Patricia Yurena Rodriguez has made pageant history this week, becoming the first international beauty queen to come out of the closet.
Rodriguez publicly confirmed she is a lesbian last week by posting a picture of her and her girlfriend cuddling in bed on social media.
The image appeared with the caption “Romeo and Juliet(sic)”.
Rodriguez also told Spanish media that “I don’t regret what I did and I did it because I am happy about what’s going on in my life”.
According to the UK’s The Telegraph, Rodriguez is the first national pageant winner to come out. Openly-gay beauty queens have competed in the past, but none has ever won a national or international title.
