Grammys prove unpredictable

The 2010 Grammy Awards will go down as one of the most unpredictable and eclectic ceremonies in the event’s 53-year history.

Country music trio Lady Antebellum were, somewhat surprisingly, the big winners on the night – taking home five awards including Song of the Year and Record of the Year, while Lady Gaga (who arrived in a giant alien egg) and Jay Z snagged three gongs each.

The rest of the awards were pretty evenly spread between acts like Usher, Bruno Mars, Train and Rihanna, but there were some glaring omissions.

Notably teen sensation Justin Bieber missing out on Best New Talent to jazz singer Esperanza Spalding – much to the annoyance of his army of Beliebers – and alternative rock band Arcade Fire trumping Lady Gaga to win Album of the Year.

Katy Perry also went home empty handed, but she definitely made an impression by performing Not Like The Movies suspended on a swing with her wedding video playing in the background.

Other memorable performances include Barbra Streisand belting out Evergreen, Gaga’s alien-tastic rendition of Born This Way, Christina Aguilera’s diva battle with Jennifer Hudson during their Aretha Franklin tribute and Cee-Lo Green’s high camp duet with Gwyneth Paltrow that simultaneously paid homage to the muppets and Elton John (bottom of post).
