More actors join 8

Producers of the Australian staging of Dustin Lance Black’s 8 have announced the addition of leading Australian actors taking on roles in the critically acclaimed play.

Joining Shane Jacobson, Lisa McCune, Daniel MacPherson, and Spencer McLaren are Jay Laga’aia (Star Wars Episode II – Attack of the Clones), Angus McLaren (Packed to the Rafters), Blake Davis (Dead Gorgeous, The Slap), Anthony Brandon Wong (The Matrix, Little Fish) and Julian Shaw (star of “It’s Time”- the viral marriage equality Youtube sensation).

Bruce Myles directs the Australian readings of 8 which follow critically acclaimed performances in New York with stars including Morgan Freeman, Anthony Edwards, John Lithgow, Christine Lahti and Marisa Tomei.

In Los Angeles, Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Martin Sheen joined the cast.

The play is an account of the US Federal Court trial on Proposition 8, the Californian ballot measure that stripped gay and lesbian couples in the state of the freedom to marry.

8 will play one show only in both Melbourne and Sydney and will coincide with the handing down of the Senate’s findings from the current inquiry on same sex marriage in Australia.

All profits from this staged reading will support Australian Marriage Equality and their fight to end marriage discrimination in Australia.

Producers have announced ticket sales are progressing strongly. All seats available are from $69.

INFO: 8 will be staged in Melbourne on June 8 at Her Majesty’s Theatre and Sydney on June 9 at the Sydney Town Hall.
