IT’S been four years since his last gay porn movie, and the now-actor formerly known as Brent Corrigan has landed a leading role in a new movie.

Using his real name Sean Paul Lockhart, the American former gay porn star stars in psychological gay thriller Truth, which was recently released online and available to download through video-sharing website Vimeo.

To mark the release of the movie, Lockheart spoke with the Star Observer about why he quit the gay porn industry, his new movie, his fans, cyber trolls and his personal life.

Lockhart described Truth as not your usual “pillow talk love drama that you would usually see in queer cinema”. Rather, he said it was a film about a chance encounter of two men who fall in love with each other after connecting online. However, one discovers an interesting truth about his new lover.

The film is also sex-orientated, and includes a full frontal scene from Lockhart.

“I’m perfectly at home wearing nothing at all in front of the camera,” he said.

“I’ve done things in front of the camera that would make most people blush. No shame in that at all,” he added, comparing his nude scene to his time in porn.

As for the nude scenes in Truth, Lockhart said it was “just art imitating life.”

“Maybe you get a flash of rear in a love scene but people have sex naked, and the ones that don’t need to grow up,” he said.

Truth has been described as a psychological thriller, with Lockhart’s character Caleb verging on multiple personalities. The Star Observer asked about the preparation involved in portraying such an intense character.

“I loved getting the chance to show so much versatility in one movie,” Lockhart said.

“To make my performance genuine I had to dig into my life, relive moments and think about my relationships with other people to attach them to what his happening in Caleb’s life.

“I’m nowhere near as messed up as Caleb, but I certainly had plenty to call on to make him feel three dimensional – even in a 2D medium.”

On his private life, Lockhart spoke about why he took a hiatus from the porn industry.

“I took a big break because I’d fallen in love with a man,” he said.

“Turns out he wasn’t really worth leaving porn for. But then I stayed away because I didn’t feel up to the challenge of a return. Then I fell in love again and after two years together he decided we weren’t right for one another. It’s been a tough break for me in that department.”

Lockhart has had several acting roles in the four years leading up to Truth, including an appearance in the Academy Award-winning film Milk.

The Star Observer asked Lockhart about the reaction to his decision to go mainstream.

“People can be pretty harsh,” he said.

“They often cut me down and say hurtful things like ‘you’re a terrible actor and you’ll never amount to much, just go back to porn’. I don’t listen much to it.”.

However, his fans and followers had a more positive reaction to his mainstream acting aspirations.

“I’ve lost a few along the way – but I expected that. I’ve also gained a new-found sense of respect and understanding from so many people,” Lockhart said.

“I think someone that likes your sex or body and only that doesn’t really care about you as a person.”

As for his future plans, Lockhart said there plenty in store, including an upcoming LGBTI film festival tour for his next film The Dark Place.

  1. I haven’t seen ‘Truth’ but I wish Sean Lockhart well in his new career. A gay for pay co-star in one of his movies, Kurt Wild (Calvin Cornelius), has likewise re-invented himself as a fine photographer and is raising a family in Missouri.

If all porn inevitably led to annihilation of the individual, then surely no-one could comfortably derive pleasure from the performance, no matter how convincing. I therefore find it reassuring to see actors like Lockhart moving on in full acknowledgement of their porn careers, without succumbing to drugs (like Joey Stefano) or a host of STD’s, including HIV and building new lives. I see no reason to tear them down.

FYI, Lockhart is still working in adult cinema with a cam service on Cam4, so maybe he still has bills to pay.

  2. It would be nice if an actor like that uses his experience to help people who are damaged by the unrealistic stereotypes and unsafe practices perpetuated in the porn industry. Too few porn stars come out and talk about body issues et al. Then again, I don’t know of any fashion models that have done so either.

    • I remember reading a piece on Corrigan a few years ago doing exactly that. He talked about the age he started and the predatory aspects of the industry, exploitation of young people, etcetera. Also about the push to produce less bareback/unprotected films.

Not to say he isn’t allowed a change of scenery, but he has tried to talk about that kind of thing before.

  3. Right on cue, Steve illustrates Lockhart’s point about the community demanding he shut up and go back to porn.

  4. I’m just having my breakfast and the last thing I want to read is about what a gay pornstar thinks or actually talks about…
Seriously SSO,let’s concentrate on something more uplifting story’s,and not of peoples failures in life, one being a pornstar-prositute.
    Thanks
