Ricky Martin on new music, selfies, social media and being single

IN media interviews for his 10th studio album A Quien Quiera Escuchar (To Whomever Wants to Listen), openly-gay singer Ricky Martin has opened up, among other things, about his addiction to selfies, social media and being single.

Of his numerous shirtless selfies that his followers have swooned over, the Puerto Rican heartthrob said he found people’s reaction to them “so funny”.

“I just want to let people know how normal my life is, and I try to do it with a simple picture — that’s what Instagram is about,” he said.

The 43-year-old also admitted he had an addiction to social media. Not that he was complaining.

“That’s the first thing I do in the morning. I check out my Twitter, my HeyHey account, Facebook and Instagram, and I read what people have to say and what they need from me as an artist,” he said.

“It’s fun, man.”

When he came out in 2010, he gained 80,000-plus followers on Twitter in one day. Martin said he has been on a “constant high” since then, reflecting on how he came out for himself and was “relieved from that obsession we all have to be liked and accepted by others”.

However, with the positive came the trolls.

“They’re haters. What do you expect? And it’s a lot of fun to block bigots,” Martin said.

The self-proclaimed hopeless romantic assured men that although he “love(s) being in love”, he is single at the moment, although right now, he was enjoying it.

“I’m not saying that I don’t want to be in a relationship,” he said.
