Sam Smith dominates the Grammys, Madonna “moons” the crowd

BRITISH singer Sam Smith has cleaned up at this year’s 57th annual Grammy Awards, taking home four of the most sought-after awards of the night.

These awards included Record of the Year and Song of the Year for his breakthrough song Stay With Me, as well as Best New Artist and Best Pop Vocal Album for his debut LP In the Lonely Hour.

Smith, who first caught global attention when he featured on Disclosure’s Latch in 2012, publicly came out as gay last year.

He went on to tell TV show host Ellen that he came out just before he released In the Lonely Hour because he didn’t want people to think he was lying about his sexuality just to sell records and so people knew who the songs where about.

Meanwhile, a quick mention of 56-year-old singer and gay icon Madonna who, while walking the red carpet, “mooned” onlookers in her custom-made matador outfit.

Sam Smith is set to tour Australia in April.
