Shop Small campaign launched

THE month-long campaign of Shop Small has officially been launched, and starts on Saturday, November 1.

Shop Small is a nationwide movement that brings together support from the business community, governments and consumers to support small businesses— many of which are found in areas with a high proportion of LGBTI residents.

Founded by American Express, the campaign comes as new research reveals that while 99 per cent of Australians recognise that small businesses are important, only 55 per cent shop there more than once a week, causing 70 per cent of small business owners to feel forgotten.

Federal Small Business Minister Bruce Billson has urged all Australians to turn their words into actions this November by showing small businesses how much they value their contribution.

“Small business is the engine room of the Australian economy,” he said.

“Australia has approximately two million small businesses; hard working, passionate Australians who employ approximately five million people between them. Shop Small reminds Australians that if they value small businesses and want to continue to see them thrive, as a community we all need to show our support.”

‎American Express Australia managing director Rachel Stocks said the aim of Shop Small was to make November the biggest shopping month for small businesses.

“Running a small business isn’t easy, so we should do everything we can to show our support,” she said.

“We’re asking all Australians to get out and shop in small businesses this November – whether it’s their butcher, baker or local dress maker – every customer makes a difference.”

To participate in Shop Small simply shop at your local business in November. You can also pledge your support at www.shopsmallaustralia.com
