Stereo MCs – Emperor’s Nightingale
British electronic outfit Stereo MCs have been going strong for well over 20 years now, and their latest offering, Emperor’s Nightingale, shows just how far the duo have come. Stunning six-minute single Boy – all sweeping strings and an affecting vocal turn from singer Rob Birch – features an unlikely collaborator in the form of jazzman Jamie Cullum, lending his piano playing talents to the track. Elsewhere, they turn away from the hip-hop influences that informed past albums, exploring dance floor sounds on the infectious Tales and even woozy breakbeats on the wonderfully offbeat Desert Song.
