All in the name of art

tumblr_mum5lxb9pT1qli1yxo1_500-360x515It is amazing what gets classified as art these days. Would you believe us if we told you that losing your virginity in full view of an audience, in an art gallery, was going to be an art performance? Well it will be, for Glayton Pettet – a second year art student at Central Saint Martins art school in London is set to lose his anal virginity on January 25, 2014 … in the name of performance art.

The performance art entitled ‘Art School Stole My Virginity’ will feature the 19 year old student and a friend engaging in safe sex, to which afterwards they will ask the audience to critique the performance.

“I’ve held on to my virginity for 19 years, and I’m not throwing it away lightly,” Pettet said. “Basically it’s like I am losing the stigma around virginity.” He continued: “Since culturally we do hold quite a lot of value to the idea of virginity I have decided to use mine and the loss of it to create a piece that I think will stimulate interesting debate and questions regarding the subject.”

Pettet says he has been planning the event for three years, and advised that he had not told his parents about the performance, although the ensuing global attention may have alerted them nonetheless.

His motive behind the art performance is to engage in the ultimate once in a life-time performance that will challenge the idea of sexuality.

On a final note, if this art performance is anything like my first time, it’s going to be very awkward, uncomfortable and over pretty quickly.

Perhaps brush strokes are no longer considered the only stroke when it comes to creating art.

  1. If ShortBus the movie could win awards and could be considered art, then this can be too, Once we get over our squeamishness about pornography per se, there will be performances that will rate in the history of great performances.

  2. I suppose you could come up with any justification to do anything you wanted and call it art. He’ll probably win awards for originality.
