Bette has Priscilla’s back

Bette Midler launched an amusing Twitter tirade against the Tony Awards committee earlier this afternoon when she learned that Priscilla Queen of the Desert: The Musical had not been nominated for Best Musical.

The legendary entertainer is co-producing the show’s Broadway run and has actively promoted it on various high profile American television shows.

In her first tweet, the pop icon quipped: “You know how they always say, “it was a pleasure just to be nominated”? We won’t be saying that. WE LOVE PRISCILLA!”

That was followed by: “I was upset that we weren’t nominated for The Tony but once you lose the Oscar a couple of times — you’re prepared. YEA, PRISCILLA!”

The jokes concluded with this pointed tweet: “Hey Tony Committee, give me a call. I have something I want you to kiss!”

Priscilla Queen of the Desert famously began life as a 1994 Australian movie before becoming a hit musical with successful productions around the world.

It might have missed out on a Tony nod for Best Musical, but Australian actor Tony Sheldon did nab a lead actor nomination.
