A formidable group of superstars came to honour Oprah Winfrey in a pair of highly publicised farewell shows taped in front of 13,000 guests as the television legend ends the final season of her iconic talkshow.

Among the celebrity contingent wer

e Tom Hanks, who acted as host, and Madonna who told the crowd: “It’s no secret that millions of people are inspired by Oprah.

“She’s a self-made woman who’s been at the top of her game for over 25 years and she is still kicking ass and encouraging people to dream big, to work hard, to read a book, to ask questions, to get an education no matter who you are or where you come from.”

The pop icon did not perform on the show but Beyoncé belted out her female empowerment anthem Run The World (Girls) as a tribute to Oprah.

“Oprah, because of you, women everywhere have graduated to a new level of understanding of what we are, of who we are, and most importantly, who we can be,” she said before performing her latest hit.

Other guests include Usher, Aretha Franklin, Alicia Keys, Maya Angelou, Tom Cruise and Dakota Fanning.
