Blondie goes acoustic

Iconic new wave pop act Blondie has performed an acoustic version of Mother to promote their new album Panic Of Girls.

Filmed live at London’s Abbey Road studios, Debbie Harry and the band sat down before the performance to talk about their new album and future now that they are in their mid-’60s.

“I guess we just sort of take it as it comes – we’re still doing it and still working,” the band’s 65-year-old frontwoman said. “Nobody’s dropped dead yet!”

As for questions about the band’s retirement, Debbie maintains a pragmatic attitude.

“I think it wont be such a hard decision to make,” she mused. “I think it will be fairly obvious when we should stop playing.”

But at the moment, the gay icon is way too much fun to call it a day.

“Fortunately music is our life and I feel particularly blessed in that respect,” she said.

“It sort of dawns on me more and more that it’s really been an extraordinary wonderful thing to have music as a daily part of my life.”
